How sunni islam defines truth



START WITH

THE MACHINE

FIRST, LEARN THE MACHINE.

Sunni Islam is not simply "the Qur'an says X."


Religious authority developed through a much larger system: Qur'an, Prophetic precedent, transmitted reports, interpretation, legal methodology and generations of scholarship.



That distinction matters.

If we're going to criticise the conclusions, we should at least understand how the machine produces them.

Jurists can reason from established rulings to cases not directly addressed by the foundational texts.

Hadith are transmitted reports about Muhammad and the early Muslim community.

They are one of the principal means through which knowledge of the Prophetic Sunna was preserved and debated.



But a report existing is not the same thing as a report being accepted.

THE ISNAD

A hadith does not simply arrive with "trust me, bro" attached.

Traditional hadith scholarship examines its chain of transmitters, their reliability and whether transmission between them was plausible.

Sunni Islam eventually consolidated around four major surviving schools of jurisprudence. They share foundational sources but differ in aspects of legal methodology, interpretation and the relative use of particular forms of reasoning and evidence.
